Description:

While the rising costs of fuel have forced the automobile owners to produce vehicles that can run on alternative sources of energy, there are some factors that prohibit them from marketing them in certain segments of the market. It is no hidden fact that the costs of fuel have sheen a sharp rise of late, but there is no point denying the fact that the CO2 emissions of conventional cars are a cause of worry for the future generations. Left unleashed, it might cause untold problems to the inhabitants of the planet. There is another cause of worry for manufacturers of conventional cars too and that is the dwindling reserves of natural fuel that is projected to last for just a few more decades.

The recent global economic disaster has weakened the dollar forcing foreign vehicle manufacturers to curb their scheduled launch dates. This is a typical catch 22 situation many auto manufacturers including Audi face. The Audi Q7 represents one of the most opulent and refined SUV available in the market. Boasting of a plush cabin, international standards of styling and many other amenities, the Audi Q7 can zoom from standstill to high speeds like a rocket, thanks to its 280 horsepower engine. However the fuel economy of this vehicle is not at par with other makes available in the market. In fact the average city and highway mileage delivered by the 3.6 liter engine of the Q7 is a dismal 16 miles per gallon.

This is not what the environmentalists expect from a eco-friendly car and keeping this facts in mind, Audi is making out some rectifications when the hybrid version of the Q7 is finally released. The full hybrid vehicle of Audi that is being developed in collaboration with Volkswagen and Porsche will be using the same 3.6 liter engine that is present in its current gasoline only models. However the combined gas and electric engine will offer substantial enhancements over the standard version. The hybrid version will boast of an additional 50 horsepower due to its electric motor that will source its power through the help of a 288 V Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride) battery pack.

This literally translates into greater pulling power and more torque. Be surprised to know that the acceleration capabilities of the Audi Q7 will be 0 to 60 and this will be achieved in less than eight seconds. While there is no doubt over the acceleration capabilities of the Q7, even sports cars can provide the same and more, people are looking for speed along with fuel economy. Such people will be pleased to know that the hybrid version of the Audi Q7 will deliver a 27% increase over its gas-only counterpart. This means that the Q7 will offer an average of 21 miles per gallon while reducing pollution causing emissions from its tailpipe. Users who can tap the accelerator properly can expect to get a speed up to 30 miles per hour in electric only mode from this car which can run in three different modes, gas only, electric only and a combination of both.
