Turns out, in what might still be the Volt’s engine’s future hometown - Flint, Michigan - the local love isn’t quite with GM’s halo car. According to a year-end ranking of the Flint Journal’s top stories , the Volt engine deal and subsequent delay and then possible revival came in at number five.

In spite of the news this week that construction work at a new Flint, MI engine plant had been temporarily halted , Laukner claims it will not effect the Volt or Chevy Cruze production timing
Still ready for 2010 Earlier this week GM announced that a plant to build engines for both the Chevy Volt and the Chevy Cruze was being delayed pending the bailout. However, GM also announced that this delay would not delay the development of the Volt.

Launch date still on target GM has delayed plans to begin construction on a new factory that will make engines for both the Chevy Volt and the Chevy Cruze until the bailout issue is resolved to help save its dwindling cash supply. Nonetheless, according to those reports , the Volt will still hit showrooms in 2010.
A Congressional update During Congressional testimony today, GM CEO Rick Wagoner was asked when the Chevy Volt would be cost-competitive to gasoline vehicles. Depending on sales volume, Wagoner stated that by 2016 or 2017 the Volt might be cost competitive.
